Pokémon Go PvP guide: best Great League Pokémon, movesets, and costs

Pokémon Go's new ranked PvP system might seem daunting at first. With limitations on what Pokémon you can use, you might not know where to even start while sorting through your Pokémon.

Luckily, with the help of a post by The Silph Road subreddit user Shark_Eating_Bacon and GamePress' list, we've put together a list of Pokémon to help you make a dent in the Great League.

Note that the Great League picks will vary from the Ultra and Master Leagues. To participate in the Great League, Pokémon have to be 1,500 CP or less. This means you cannot bring your super strong Mewtwo into the league for a sweep. It also means that you need to be careful not to power up your Pokémon above 1,500 CP, or they won't be able to participate.

For PvP, you should also spend candy and Stardust to unlock a second move for your Pokémon to get more type coverage in.

We recommend using any of the following Pokémon:

Altaria

Quick move: Dragon Breath

Charge moves: Sky Attack and Dragon Pulse

Second charge move cost: 10,000 Stardust and 25 Swablu candy

Best against: Bug-, fighting-, and grass-types

Worst enemy: Fairy- and ice-types

Altaria comes at a steep cost of 400 Swablu candy, but it's undisputedly one of the best Pokémon in the Great League. It's tanky enough to take hits, it does a lot of damage, and it's definitely worth having if you have the resources.

Azumarill

Quick move: Bubble

Charge moves: Hydro Pump and Play Rough

Second charge move cost: 10,000 Stardust and 25 Marill candy

Best against: Ground-, rock-, fire-, fighting-, dragon-, and dark-types

Worst enemy: Grass-, electric-, and poison-types

Azumarill's fairy typing allows it to take down strong dragon-type threats, and like Altaria, it has bulk to back it up. You can also use Ice Beam as one of the charge moves to help negate its weakness against grass-types.

Skarmory

Quick move: Air Slash

Charge moves: Sky Attack and Flash Cannon

Second charge move cost: 75,000 Stardust and 75 Skarmory candy

Best against: Fighting-, grass-, bug-, rock-, ice-, and fairy-types

Worst enemy: Fire- and electric-types

Skarmory takes down fighting-, grass-, and bug-types with easy using its great arsenal of flying-type moves. A second move for it might be expensive to unlock, but it does well even without Flash Cannon, so if you don't have the resources, it's still a valuable pick.

Registeel

Quick move: Lock-On (Legacy)

Charge moves: Flash Cannon and Focus Blast

Second charge move cost: 100,000 Stardust and 100 Registeel candy

Best against: Rock-, ice-, fairy-, normal-, steel-, and dark-types

Worst enemy: Fighting-, ground-, and fire-types

If you had no use for the Registeel you got from raids, now you do. It doesn't do much damage, but it can take a ton of damage and its steel-typing gives it a good amount of resistances.

Wigglytuff

Quick move: Charm

Charge moves: Ice Beam and Play Rough

Second charge move cost: 10,000 Stardust and 25 Jigglypuff candy

Best against: Fighting-, dragon-, dark-, flying-, ground-, and grass-types

Worst enemy: Poison- and steel-types

Wigglytuff is a dragon-type destroyer. It's here to take down any Altaria you may see. Charm also does a fair amount of damage and will hold its own against any typing that it's not disadvantaged against.

Whiscash

Quick move: Mud Shot

Charge moves: Mud Bomb and Blizzard

Second charge move cost: 10,000 Stardust and 25 Barboarch candy

Best against: Poison-, rock-, steel-, fire-, electric-, flying-, ground-, grass-, and dragon-types

Worst enemy: Grass-types

Whiscash will get hit really hard by grass-type moves, but it'll make a great asset to your team with both ground- and ice-type moves.

Bibarel

Quick move: Water Gun

Charge moves: Surf and Hyper Fang

Second charge move cost: 10,000 Stardust and 25 Bidoof candy

Best against: Ground-, rock-, and fire-types

Worst enemy: Fighting-, grass-, and electric-types

Bibarel might not seem like much, but it has some pretty strong moves in its arsenal. It's not the best pick, but many players will likely have a Bidoof and its candy.

Golbat

Quick move: Wing Attack

Charge moves: Poison Fang and Shadow Ball

Second charge move cost: 10,000 Stardust and 25 Zubat candy

Best against: Fighting-, bug-, grass-, ghost-, and psychic-types

Worst enemy: Rock-, electric-, psychic-, and ice-types

Poison Fang is great to waste your opponents' two shields and Shadow Ball packs a punch. Using a Shadow Zubat from a Team Rocket battle will likely help you make a strong bat boy to cause a ruckus in the Great League

Venusaur

Quick move: Vine Whip

Charge moves: Frenzy Plant (Legacy) and Sludge Bomb

Second charge move cost: 10,000 Stardust and 25 Bulbasaur candy

Best against: Ground-, rock-, water-, and grass-types

Worst enemy: Flying-, fire,- psychic-, and ice-types

Frenzy Plant, Venusaur's Community Day move, is what makes it so strong. Paired with its tankiness, its a strong contender, if you have one.

Umbreon

Quick move: Snarl

Charge moves: Foul Play and Last Resort (Legacy)

Second charge move cost: 75,000 Stardust and 75 Eevee candy

Best against: Ghost- and psychic-types

Worst enemy: Fighting-, bug-, and fairy-types

Umbreon doesn't have much type coverage, but is still strong, due to its high defense stat.

Defense Forme Deoxys

Quick move: Counter

Charge moves: Rock Slide and Thunderbolt

Second charge move cost: 100,000 Stardust and 100 Deoxys candy

Best against: Normal-, rock-, steel-, ice-, dark-, flying-, bug-, fire-, and water-types

Worst enemy: Bug-, ghost-, and dark-types

If you have a Defense Forme Deoxys and you want to take PvP seriously, you should consider investing in it. It's bulky as heck and will eat other Pokémons' charge moves for breakfast while also dishing out damage in a variety of types.

Legendary Rayquaza Added to Pokemon Masters

Some new Sync pairs have been added to Pokemon Masters, with one team including the legendary Pokemon Rayquaza. The in-game event called "The Dragon That Rules the Sky," will give mobile Pokemon Masters the ability to unlock Rayquaza and Zinnia for themselves. Gamers can only increase Rayquaza's Level Cap and unlock new moves and skills by retrieving special items that are available only during The Dragon That Rules the Sky. Pokemon Masters is available for free on iOS and Android now.

Gamers will have to log in to Pokemon Masters each day to fully benefit from The Dragon That Rules the Sky event, similar to any other. By logging in every day, gamers will be able to stack up to 4,200 free gems, which will give them 14 attempts at gaining the new sync pairs for their teams. Apparently the next big update will bring even more Sync Pairs, including Kukui and Lycanro, and Leaf and Eevee. Gamers who log in between today and March 15th will receive 1,500 free gems to celebrate the game achieving a 20 million download milestone. Each Sync Pair has special skills that provide debuffs or boosts, as well as different types of powerful Pokemon moves.

After a stealth launch, Pokemon Masters has gained several new and powerful Sync Pairs. Certain Legendary Pokemon and Champion trainers have been added to the game as fan service since it launched in August. One of the Sync Pair's added was Steven Stone with his Metagross. With more Legendary Pokemon coming to Pokemon Masters over time, we hope to see Mew, Celebi and the Legendary dogs from the second generation.

Pokémon Masters: the legendary Rayquaza storms in with new trailer

The newest Pokémon Masters update brings in three potential new Sync Pairs to collect, including Pokémon Emerald cover star Rayquaza.

Next month will see a handful of new Pokémon announcements to celebrate Pokémon Day, including the unveiling of a brand new pokémon. But some might say the celebrations have come early thanks to a recent announcement regarding mobile game Pokémon Masters.

A new event that went live today has added three new Sync Pairs for players to potentially get their hands on; the big one being the pairing of Zinnia and Rayquaza, who both heavily featured in Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire's post-game story.

To obtain them, you will need to have at least cleared Chapter 4 of the main story, and then take part in the Dragon That Rules The Sky event, which will see you team up with Zinnia and Professor Kukui (from Sun & Moon) and investigate an unidentified dragon pokémon.

Completing the event will award you with vouchers that can be used to obtain the pair and add them to your party, but you only have until 14 February to do so.

According to the website, Kukui himself will be obtainable as a Sync Pair as well, partnered up with his Lycanroc. Together, their sync move can remove an opponent team's Reflect or Light Screen buff before it deals damage. They have to be found using the Sync Pair Scout feature and will also be available until 14 February.

The third and final pair is Leaf, the female protagonist from Fire Red & Leaf Green, and Eevee. Much like Kukui, they can only be obtained via the Sync Pair Scout, and their sync move not only increases their move gauge, but it also gives all of their teammates' stats a boost. This pair will only be available until 5 February, though.

If you're worried about not having enough gems to use the Sync Pair Scout, the game has you covered there too. The new log-in bonus means that you can earn up to 4,200 gems over the next two weeks and when you first log-in to the game during this event's run, you'll receive 1,500 gems. This is to celebrate Pokémon Masters achieving 20 million downloads worldwide.

The trailer also teases a future addition to the game, confirming that Hoenn champion Steven will arrive at some point with his Metagross, which will be able to Mega Evolve.

Pokemon Vote 2020: Pokemon of the Year Voting starts NOW for Pokemon Day

Pokemon Vote 2020 has begun, with Pocket Monster fans now able to choose who they think is Pokemon of the Year. The Pokemon of the year 2020 search has begun, and it's easy for fans to get involved before the votes are counted and the results revealed on Pokemon Day. Anyone looking to have an impact on the results will be pleased to know that all Pokemon will be available to vote for in the new poll. The Pokemon Vote is being held on Google and will provide the first celebrations for the big event.

HOW TO VOTE FOR POKEMON OF THE YEAR 2020

To vote for your choice of Pokemon of the Year 2020, fans can simply type in the above phrase, or search on Google for Pokemon Vote.

This should lead you directly to a special search page, which will allow you to select a region of your choice.

This includes everything from Kanto to Galar and means you can vote for whichever Pokemon you want.

And the good news is that you will have the option each day to vote for one species per category until 13:59 UTC on Fri, February 14.

This is when the Pokemon Vote closes and will be followed by the result being confirmed on Pokemon Day, February 27.

VOTE FOR POKEMON OF THE YEAR 2020 HERE

The official voting period is from Wednesday, February 5, at 6 a.m. PST through Friday, February 14, at 5:59 a.m. PST.

It should be noted that all forms of each species count as the same Pokémon. Google also confirms that your votes will be stored until the vote ends and cannot be deleted.

The Vote will be connected to whatever Google Account you are logged in as and is a requirement.

Here's more from the Pokemon Company, who confirmed in a new statement: "To participate, search for "Pokemon vote" on Google.

"The voting screen will be displayed in your search results. Select the category you want to vote on from the eight choices.

"Then select one Pokémon from the list (sorted by National Pokédex number) and click the vote button.

"When you're signed in to your Google account, you can cast one vote per category for a maximum of eight votes daily.

"You can vote only once in each category per day, but you can vote each day during the voting period.

"Votes will be counted based on the Pokémon's National Pokédex number, even for Pokémon that have multiple forms, including regional forms."

And there are plenty more events being planned for Pokemon Days, which is being held later this month.

Pokemon Go is running a special event during the week of Pokemon Day, with a new Pokemon also being revealed.

News and updates for Pokémon Masters are also being teased, with some special Max Raid Battles in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield launching on the day.

The full-length movie Pokemon: Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution will become available to watch on Netflix on Pokemon Day, too.

This Stunning Collage Paints Ash Ketchum Using Only Pokemon

Pokemon fans have learned a lot from Ash Ketchum. The aspiring Pokemon Master has overcome some unimaginable odds to become the champion he is today. Time and again, the goofy hero from Pallet Town has proven his worth with Pikachu, and he has inspired fans to reach for similar success. That is why one artist went above with their latest Pokemon project as they painted Ash in an odd medium.

Over on Reddit, a user known as JanDoedelGaming posted their work. The poster, which can be seen below, is simple from far away. The poster simply recreates a shot of Ash from the anime during his early years. The trainer is seen shortly after throwing a Poke Ball, but his possible catch is not the thing interesting fans.

No, the interesting bit comes when you zoom in on the poster. The artwork turns out to be a massive collage which the artist created using itty-bitty Pokemon sprites.

As you can see here, the blown-up image reveals the secret behind this Pokemon project. The artist was able to stunningly recreate an anime shot using Pokemon sprites. Everything you see on this poster was created using a geeky form of pointillism.

Looking at the sky, you can zoom in to find hordes of Vanilluxe floating around as well as Dewgong and Wailord. There are plenty of other Pokemon as well as Horsea, Ditto, and more. It turns out the artwork was made using an algorithm, so you can check out the info here on how to make your own sprite-approved Pokemon.

Pokemon Masters celebrates 20M users with Zinnia & Rayquaza

Pokemon Masters has reached 20 million users and is ready to celebrate with a pair of events, including one that introduces Legendary Dragon and Flying-type Pokemon Rayquaza.

Pokemon Masters continues to do battle on mobile devices and the clashes are only going to intensify in the year ahead. One of the game's first major events is set to begin, as DeNA and The Pokemon Company look to celebrate hitting the 20 million user milestone. With that said, here comes the Legendary Dragon-type Pokemon, Rayquaza.

Trainer Zinnia brings along the Dragon and Flying-Type Rayquaza in a new event called The Dragon That Rules The Sky. This event will see players meet Zinnia, fresh out of the Hoenn region, along with Alola's own Professor Kukui and his Pokemon, Lycanroc. Earn enough in-game rewards and you'll be able to add Zinnia and Rayquaza to your own teams.

The Professor and Lycanroc will also be featured in a separate event called Kukui Spotlight Scout. This event will also feature Lycanroc's Midnight Form, which is paired with trainer Olivia. Both events will run from now through February 13 at 9:59PM PT.

That's not all players can look forward to. Leaf & Eevee will debut as a Normal and Steel-type sync pair from now through February 5 at 9:59PM PT. And in the future, players can look forward to meeting Steven, the Hoenn Pokemon Champion from Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, and his Metagross. More details on the latter event are coming soon.

Hitting 20 million users isn't easy for any game and given that developer DeNA recently issued an apology over the game's quality, they're likely happy to reach this milestone. So to celebrate, anyone who logs into Pokemon Masters is set to receive 1,500 free Gems. This free offer will run from now through March 15 at 9:59PM PT. That's on top of the free Gems that players can earn while logging into the game during The Dragon That Rules The Sky, which can be earned each day.

Starting today, players will be able to participate in an in-game event called "The Dragon That Rules the Sky," which will give players the chance to add the team of Rayquaza and Zinnia to their team. Similar to other recent Legendary Events, players can only increase Rayquaza's Level Cap and unlock new moves and skills by obtaining special items available only during this event. By logging in each day, players can also obtain up to 4,200 free gems, which will give players up to 14 tries to add new sync pairs to their teams. Pokemon Masters' next update will also add several other Sync Pairs, including Leaf and Eevee, and Kukui and Lycanroc.

Pokemon Masters is a free-to-play real-time strategy game, in which players form teams of three Sync Pairs to battle other players and AI opponents. Each Sync Pair has special skills that provide boosts or debuffs, as well as a variety of powerful Pokemon moves. After a rocky start, Pokemon Masters has brought in several powerful Sync Pairs, adding Legendary Pokemon and Champion trainers to the game to appeal to fans. One such Sync Pair is Steven Stone and Metagross, which was announced as an upcoming Sync Pair in the trailer seen above.

Rayquaza and Zinnia are available now in Pokemon Masters. If you're looking to jump back into the game, players who log in between now and March 15th will also receive 1,500 free gems to celebrate the game reaching a 20 million download milestone.
